History

Hosted by Chinese Arts Centre as part of the UK’s largest ever festival of Chinese culture - CHINA NOW, (Un)familiar Territories was a series of sound walks created by experimental sound artists Yan Jun and Hitlike.

Visitors to the Centre could pick up an MP3 player and a map which would take them on a physical walk around Manchester alongside an aural journey through an Chinese city. Recordings of everyday moments in China were carefully edited to link with locations in Manchester, providing an glimpse into life in China today using the evocative qualities of sound
