History

Antony Clarkson is an international artist and lecturer on
Visual Arts Programmes in both the UK and Europe. In 2012 he took part in a two month residency at 501 Artspace in Chongqing, China during which he spent time learning about growing Chongqing and its evolution as a city.

During his residency at the Centre, Anthony further explored his findings from Chongqing. Utilising the double height space of the residency studio, the artist re-worked the idea of the plinth in the work Someone Else’s Storey. Playing with audience perception and pre-conceptions of the white cube gallery environment, visitors were encouraged to to look beyond eye-level and give importance to the often unnoticed beauty of existing architecture. The work was presented during an open studio 17th-24th January 2014.
