Programme ➔ Artist Residencies ➔ First Step (2004-2014)
2008 Jul 15 (is beginning date)
2008 Oct 15 (has end date)
First Step showcase exhibition by Mediha Ting. This exhibition was supported by the Personal Artist Development (PAD) scheme.
Fragmented Memories and Fragmented London were two series of 12 paintings which explored the concept of fragmentation and infinity in terms of image making and the physical representation of paintings.
The artist used a layering technique to overlap images, using combinations of ink transfer, layers of transparent paint, medium, text and line drawings. Each layer could be seen in the final works, although some details were lost and others were enhanced. The images were based upon the artist's own memories of past experience and influences which merged and connected with one another in a fragmented way but disparate and separably identifiable. Each painted panel could be viewed on its own or could be viewed in many different combinations with the other panels. The works invited viewers to bring their own interpretations, experience and memories draw from this series.
